Kenai II
Now in Valdez, Great here. More on that later. This blog is about the Kenai Peninsula.
Mt Redoubt is one of several volcanoes making up the "ring of fire". The "Ring of Fire" is made up of volcanoes circling the Pacific Ocean. Five of these volcanoes can be seen from the Kenai Pennisula.
The sign says it all.
I was scheduled to go fishing here but got sick. Another of our travelers went in my place and we split the price and fish. The weather was bad and the fishing was bad also. I only got 5 pounds but at $18.75 per pound that was ok.
We stayed all the way out on this spit. The only thing past us was the ferry.
Going out to the Homer Spit.
After the Anchorage earthquake in 1964, Homer was wiped out except for the Salty Dawg Saloon. It is the only surving building. Still going strong.
Eagles are abundant.
Lupins grow wild here. They probably are the most abundant wild flower in the Kenai.
our view from the campground
We left Homer and went to Seward. This is our view through the windshield as we are parked in the campground.
We took an eight hour trip on the coastal explorer through Prince William Sound out to a glacier.
Saw lots more eagles.
Seals, sea lions whales etc
Cathy had fun. Win and Betty at the table and Faye walking away,
We saw the glacier calve.
A piece of the glacier. They can tell age from this.
Another glacier.
Back to Seward and on to Valdez the next day, next post.
