Tok, AK

We are in Tok, Alaska. Not a lot here but cell phones and Internet do work. We lay over here for a couple of days to clean the coach, after 140 miles of gravel and mud, it needs it, and do washing and maintenance. There are shops that the lady's enjoy.
The rest of this blog will be about getting here.

To get to Alaska from Dawson City, YK, you have to cross the Yukon River. No bridge, just a free ferry that makes the crossing in 15 minutes round trip. It will carry 4 RVs. Sometimes there is a long line waiting to cross. Not this morning, we were the only ones waiting.
This is the ferry coming from the other side.

We are on but not allowed to leave the coach.
Actually we are at the landing site on the other side.

Just driving off.

The start of the "Top of the World Highway". Along the way we will stop in Chicken, AK. 65 miles to the border, 42 more to chicken. Almost all gravel and it has rained, so, muddy.

The scenery up here is awesome, the pictures just do nor portray it.

If you look close in this picture, you can see the road we just traveled.

The USA is in sight. This is the border crossing.

Yahoo, we are back in the USA.

42 more miles of bad roads and beautiful scenery.

In Chicken, AK. We are parked near the dredge "Pedro".

The school here got new lockers so they made this chicken out of the old lockers.

Cathy, Richard and Faye panning as soon as we got here.

Downtown Chicken, gift shop, liquor store, bar and cafe. Everyone working there helps out with each other. They have back store passageways. It is owned by one person.

Leaving Chicken, 2 more miles of bad road.

Finally pavement, well not really, lots of gravel repairs going on.
Scenery is still great.

You can see the repairs in this pic.

Back on the Alaska Highway and smooth roads and on to Tok.
Tomorrow we leave for Fairbanks.
