To Denali
We left Fairbanks headed for Denali. We went to Denali today but this blog is going to be about our last day in Fairbanks and the trip here. Denali National Park will take it own blog later.
Our last day day in Fairbanks, we went to the El Dorado gold mine.
We road a train thru a permafrost cave where we learned about the ways miners dug caves thru the permanently frozen ground called permafrost.
we saw an old miners cabin. They were small, barely high enough to stand up and had the roof covered with sod. Al making it easier to heat.
Cathy got to do some more panning. She got about $35.00 worth of gold. Enough to fill another locket since she left her other on in Tampa.
Then on the road to Denali.
We stopped at a small town for breakfast at a neat "Mom and Pop" restaurant.
We were joined by friends, Bob and Peggy Beers. I had reindeer sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Cathy has halibut.
Cathy met a sourdough miner.
The cabbage grows big here.
Then on down the road along the Nenania River.
Sorry this is short but I want to do Denali by itself and it is getting late.
