Deali National Park
I am behind on this and one other post I want to do. We are in Anchorage now, we left Denali Saturday, spent Saturday night in Big Lake and arrived here today. We will be here three nights.
This post will be mostly pictures of animals and scenery and not a lot of my BS.
The park is mostly closed to private vehicles because of the narrow road. Cars and RVs can only go a short way in so they have shuttle buses to take visitors to various parts of the park. We chose the 8 hour trip.
The first animals we sighted were three Caribou sunning themselves on the river bed.
Then came the moose.
Two cows.
A snowshoe rabbit. Their name comes from the track they leave in the snow, it looks like a snowshoe.
A bus like ours crossing one of the rivers here.
more caribou.
Pictures do not do justice to the scenery here.
The roads are not for the faint of heart.
Now we see Dahl Sheep taking their break from feeding.
Some are active.
More pics that really don't do justice to what we see.
Another grizzly
caribou
Mama with one cub
The other cub trying to catch up
Still trying.
At the furthermost point of our trip to Denali. Even though there is no sun for 4 hours, it is not dark.
Ground squirrel
On the return trip, we saw mama and babies again. They were taking a nap.
One woke up but was not modest.
Our road out.
He was not impressed by out visit.
Another Grizzly
Another caribou.
And a very strange animal we have not identified yet.
One of the reasons to go to Denali National Park is to see MT McKinley (Denali). We did not. It was cloudy
Hooray, 125 miles southwest of Denali NP, we stopped for breakfast, and, there it was. Over 21,000 feet high, the highest point in North America, above the clouds. It was majestic. Remember this picture was taken 125 miles away.
Breakfast was great also, pancakes with fresh blueberries in them.
