We will be leaving here Tuesday. We need to go to Amana IA to get ready for the National Trek rally we are co-hosting.
Park county of IN claims to be the covered bridge capitol of the world. So does Astibula county in OH. There are a lot of covered bridges here. We visited several, most of them we were able to drive thru. We traveled down a lot of dirt and gravel roads, thru corn, soybean, and wheat fields to get to them.
This area of IN is the birth place of the WW2 war correspondent, Ernie Pyle. He was very popular with the troops in the Pacific fighting. He was killed in action on Okanawa. A Marine construction crew built a momument for his grave there. I saw that momument in the 60's when I visited Okaniwa. This is a replica of that momument. We wanted to go to the EP meuseum but the state has closed it. Note the covered bridge in the background.
