Rally time

After leaving Deadwood, SD we headed west for some RV rallies.

Crossing into Wyoming. We will make this same drive, again, in three weeks.

Along the way, we decided to detour to Devils Tower National Monument.

Our first view of DT.

There are two Indian stories about DT and both have kids trying to escape from a bear. The ridges on the side are bear claw marks from him trying to climb the tower.

We had to wait for a cattle drive to cross the road.

In line waiting to get in.

Quite a sight and nothing like it around anywhere.
You may have seen this in the movie "Close encounters of a third kind"

Then the long road back to the I-90.

The Big Horn mountains still have snow.

Crossing into MT and on to the first rally in Hardin MT with 34 motor homes. This was a Safari International rally.
We arrived there June13.

During the rally, we had a tour bus take us to Custer's Last Stand.

The memorial atop the "Last Stand" hill.

The Indian memorial,

White headstones where each of the soldiers fell,

red headstones where they think an Indian fell. Through research, they have the names of some of them.
The Indians took most of their bodies with them.

And, a memorial headstone for the horses killed here.

Back to WY for a Family Motor Coach Assn rally.

Big Horn mountains

near Buffalo, WY

Something you definitely do not see in FL, snow drift fences.
At the FMCA rally, there were over 4,000 coaches and lots of vendors. I attended the business meeting, we went to several seminars and spent lots of money.
We arrived here June 16

Now, back to Rapid City SD for another rally. This one with 130 coaches.
We have a Safari motor coach. This rally is celebrating the 25th birthday of Safari RVs
.We arrived here June 24
This one had all catered meals and some seminars.

While there, we went by tour bus to the night lighting of Mount Rushmore.

We have been here several times but never at night.

These lights stay on all night.

When leaving, we followed this Safari coach for some time.
I like his mural.

Back to Gillette, WY for an escapee's Club rally.
Close to 400 coaches here. This is Escapees 35th birthday bash.
We arrived here June 28 and left July 5.

I-90 through miles of open area.

Lots of Pronghorn along the way

Gillette claims to be the "Energy Capitol of the US. Around here you see long trains filled with coal going in all directions.

Lots of oil and natural gas wells

and lots more being drilled.

The last night of the rally, 4th of July.

We had fireworks all around our coach, at least 6 different sources.
We were at the Fairgrounds and theirs was last.

It was storming when they fired theirs off. You can see the lightning in this shot.

All of these pictures were taken from inside our coach and without any magnification.

Very impressive but our dog Freddy did not like it.

Then back on the road to Ft. Laramie, WY. and back to sightseeing.

That will be my next blog.
