Back in Verde Valley
We are back in Verde Valley now, Cottonwood, AZ. We are at the Thousand Trails Campground. We will be here 3 weeks then we have to leave.(3 weeks in free, 1 week out) We will go 6 miles to a Resorts of Distinction park in Camp Verde, 1 week there then back here for 3 more weeks.
Verde Valley is a nice place, 3000 ft elevation, average about 85 degrees in day time and 50 nights. We are about 1/2 way between Prescott and Sedona.
Before coming here, we visited the Grand Canyon.
We arrived on Tuesday at noon. We spent the afternoon driving along the south rim.
It was breath taking.
The Grand Canyon is 157 miles long and 16 miles wide at the widest point. It averages 10 miles wide. It is about 4000 feet deep. The national park is 50 miles long.
Our first stop.
I will just post some views.
The Colorado River
And finally, sunset on the east rim.
This is where the Painted Desert ends.
The second day, we had hail in the AM and rain and snow in the PM. We stayed in. At 7000 foot elevation, it is not warm. We were in the 20s every night.
We did get to see the deer as they roamed through the camp. They were not scared of people.
We booked a helicopter flight for Thursday. we got lucky, the helicopter held 6 passengers, 2 in front and 4 in back. We got the front seats.
And it was a beautiful day.
Cathy was worried but still smiling.
As we approach the rim. The north rim is in view.
Crossing over the rim was thrilling. We went, instantly, from about 50 feet above the trees to 4000 feet above the canyon floor.
The Colorado River 4000 feet below.
Another helicopter from the same company was flying ahead of us.
We flew over the canyon for an hour and went over the south rim, east rim and north rim. It was expensive but we would do it again.
Friday, on the road again, 140 miles to Cottonwood, AZ.
While here it is time for some serious maintenance. We have to have the ice maker, passenger side windshield and one slide out awning replaced. All will be done where we are parked by mobile repair services.
