Shipshewana

After 4 weeks in one of our clubs campground, we had to leave for a week. One place we like is about 200 miles from here. The Amish town of Shipshewana. We have been there several times but still like going there.
So, on to Shipshewana for a week.
This time we decided to stay in the park north of town.

Whoa, check in here

All done

Need information?

ask the horse

he doesn't say much

We did get a nice spot

Welcome

common sign

two popular modes of transportation

They do move at a pretty good pace

and they are licensed

carrying gas cans

pulling trailers and boats/trailer

Hitching post everywhere

at gas stations

grocery stores, etc

a picture covering one large window

Some very nice farms

growing corn

horse farms

and soybeans

Every Tuesday and Wednesday, there is a large Flea Market and Auction

the flea market

the auction, from 8 to 10 auctioneers going at the same time every Tuesday and Wednesday. On Fridays they have a horse auction.
The flag pole at the auction.

This is a tourist oriented town.

Some shops do different things to attract sales.

This one has a carousal inside

also some very weird items for sale

I did not buy any of these.

Our favorite shop is Yoder's Meat and Cheese

An extremely large selection of meats and cheese. We do spend lots of money here.

Another thing to see here is the world's largest Hudson museum.

I have been here a couple of times so I just borrowed pictures from a past blog

If you are interested in the museum, go to: http://coopertraveles.blogspot.com/2015/09/shipshawana-in.html to see additional pictures.

I don't  know how many they have, but there are almost every year covered

most are pretty neat

even trucks

Now, the real reason we come here.

The Blue Gate Restaurant has a great buffet.

Amy's Pizza, a small restaurant that is hard to get into at noon. All the workers come here for lunch

kind of quaint

Their pizza burgers are very popular, especially with the Amish factory workers.
These are the best we have had.

The Auction restaurant, only open Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Auction days

Their Amish chicken and noodles with cole slaw and mashed potatoes is a must.

and the Howe Restaurant for olive burgers.

Another small "Mom and Pop" place that gets packed out.

From here back to Batesville for 3 weeks before heading south to Boonville, MO, the home farm for  the Budweiser Clydesdale horses.
