2017 Zephyrhills to Texas

Hooked up and ready to go

Westward Ho

Why are we not moving yet?

Oh, mommy is driving?

Then I'm riding shotgun.

Darn, pop said he was gonna drive,

so, I have to share the seat.

After the recent rains, the roadside flowers bloom

Our first stop, the Hitchin Post RV park.

It is set up for RVs and horse trailers.

They have a round pen and turn out pen with electric fence and lots of hitching posts all around.

Next day into Alabama

over Mobile Bay, past the Battleship Alabama

Through the tunnel

and into Mississippi.

Normally the trip from the Florida state line to Beaumont Texas, about 400 miles, takes us 10 days. This time we decided to skip Loxley, AL and Lafayette LA so we will do it in 7 days.

First stop Biloxi MS and normally we do not gamble much.
We are here for the food.

We always hit at least 1 casino for the buffet. Average cost $17.00 but most give seniors 2 for 1 prices.

We always visit Mikey's on the Bayou",

for the $5.00 a dozen oysters

and the Muffolattos. I had already eaten 2/3 of it. This is the leftovers for lunch next day.

Taranto's for

Crawfish. They put lots of chopped up jalapenos in when boiling.

Cathy gets bored waiting for me when I have crawfish. She did have fried crawfish tails.

Into Louisiana. Traffic was really slow going into Baton Rouge from the west. Luckily we were going west.

In LA, about 25 miles of I10 runs through the swamps

this goes on for miles.

Our first stop in Louisiana, Cajun Palms RV Resort in Breaux Bridge. Normally out of our price range ($50 per night) but we had a free 2 night stay that a friend gave us.

We stayed here to eat at Crawfish Town. We have eaten here several times before. I loved the crawfish pie.

They do not have the meal size crawfish pie anymore.
We split the crawfish festival platter, salad, seafood gumbo, fried crawfish tails, crawfish boulettes, crawfish pie, crawfish etouffe, boiled crawfish, french fries, rolls and desert

Next night we split the seafood festival platter. Salad, seafood gumbo, stuffed crab, stuffed shrimp, crawfish broulette, frog legs, fried catfish, fried shrimp, fried oysters, seafood jambalaya, boiled crawfish french fries, roll and desert.

Leaving LA, we drove past a lot of crawfish/rice fields. They plant the rice, flood the fields and the crawfish come out of the ground. Crawfish and rice grow until it is crawfish season.

This shows the buoy for the crawfish traps.

When they finish with the crawfish they drain the fields to harvest the rice.
The remaining crawfish go underground and hibernate.

bridge over Lake Charles

Finally into TX.

Texas will be the next blog.
