2016 Trip, Home to Biloxi

Back to doing my trip blog. It may have some things you will not be interested in but we also use it as our trip diary.
Remember you can double click on a picture to enlarge it. I hope you enjoy.
This year we are going to start at some of the places closer to home that we usually bypass. We will double back at some time. This was done to make sure we had a good place for the 4th of July. Other than that we will not normally have reservations.
On June 20, we finally left Zephyrhills for the summer.

RV and car hooked up

Me driving

and Freddy holding Cathy down

We started having trouble with the rear view camera. Our repair facility, Alliance RV in Wildwood FL is on the way so we stopped in for repairs.
Stayed overnight and left the next day. They have a free campground if you are having repairs done.

Made it to Crestview FL for the first night. Liked our spot so decided to stay for two nights.
We saw deer tracks in our campsite the first morning. Missed the deer.

Freddy has his normal spot when we are stopped.

Emerald Isle Restaurant and Seafood Market. Great baked oysters on the half shell and soft shell crab basket for me, fried crawfish tails basket for Cathy.

Our campground is along the Yellow River in Holt FL.

So relaxing among the Cypress trees.

Back on the road, into Alabama

Through the tunnel under Mobile Bay

and into Mississippi.

Parked in Biloxi, nice park but small sites. Paid  $8.00 for site + $2.00 for 50 amp service per day.

Biloxi Lighthouse, can be climbed on certain days. We missed it.

High water marks for Hurricanes Camille 1969,  19.5 feet above mean sea level and Katrina 2005 22 feet.

The red mark is Katrina and the blue Camille.

The building behind was totally leveled, It was rebuild completely as near like the old one and now is the visitors center.

This horse head made from driftwood is in the visitors center. There were no signs so I don't know anything about it, just thought it was neat.

What we really like about this part of the country is the varied restaurants and food.

Mikey's on the Bayou is a bait house downstairs and restaurant upstairs.
They feature "$5.00 a dozen" oysters on the half shell all day every day.

They also have a charter boat service docked there  and they will cook your catch when you return.

The Half Shell Oyster House that has Royal Red Shrimp on the menu.

Royal Reds are rare to find in restaurants. They are from very deep water and have a taste similar to lobster.

Incidentally, our waitress here was Diana Palin, Sarah Palins sister-in-law. She saw my Alaska T-shirt and that started a long conversation. We really enjoyed it.

I had them with a side of cheese grits.

And casinos like the Scarlet Pearl that have very large buffets.

The brunch costs $17.50 per person but you can find 2 for 1 coupons every where.

They feature full breakfasts, including omelets, prime rib roasts, ribs, Cajun dishes all the sides you can think of, catfish, shrimp, crawfish, baked clams, crabs, pizzas and pasta, several seafood salads, deserts etc and also included drinks, champagne and mimosas. Our total bill, $17.50

I really pigged out here.

Next stop, New Orleans

Nice pics of the start of your trip. Did you win or lose in the casino. Audrey's brother and his wife have been to that casino often from their home in Ocala. Travel safely you guys. Dave & Audrey.
