Hagerman, ID

We left Pagossa Springs, CO July 18 headed for Moab, UT.

Saying "bye bye" to the mountains.

Just  another driving day of less than 300 miles.

Another little known National Monument

Then out of the mountains.

into Utah

and into some different scenery.

Church Rock

No mountains in the distance

very few trees, lots of sage brush

landscape is starting to get red.

many arches

The evening view from our RV in Moab

We did not realize how hot it is here at this time of the year, triple digits every day. Lucky for us, we spent two weeks here in 2011 so have seen all the sight. We were going to Bryce and Zion NPs but decided to go to Idaho instead. I found a RV park in Hagerman that had all pull thrus, all face north and lots of shade.

So off we go for cooler weather.

We  missed the Idaho sign.

Not much here in Hagerman, but the original horses came from here. They migrated to Europe and Asia and finally became extinct in America. The Spanish re-introduced them when they started exploring here.

This is one of five complete skeletons in the world.

front view

 a fossilised horse head

Camel fossils were found here also

The Hagerman Fossil Beds  is another little known National Monument

On the far banks is where they found the fossils including the five horse skeletions.
This is part of the Snake River.

The Snake River has lots of sea birds including Pelicans.

And the Oregon Trail ran through here

We will be here until Sept 2nd.

While here we got invited to an Elks Club dutch oven cookout and a US Flag retirement ceremony. Both were great.
We have 4G cell phone and internet, strong satellite service, good shade low humidity, a slight breeze and good fresh picked vegetables.
We have enjoyed it here.
