Rapid City, SD
We arrived in Rapid City, SD 31 May.On he way here, we stopped in Danville, MO for a few nights. While there, we visited Hermann, a small German town noted for its wine making.
We had to try one of the wineries
And their Restaurant for some great German food.
One of their vineyards.
Then back on the road
Thru Iowa
and into South Dakota
Lots of open road along the way.
Then a side trip to the Badlands National Park
panoramic view of the badlands
we saw several antelopes
more Badlands scenes
female bighorn sheep
Mount Rushmore
The presidents, awesome
another view

Then on to he Crazy Horse memorial. Paid for only by donations. If it is ever finished, it will show the full horse and Crazy Horse. This is the profile.
The start of his face
Many visitors
Then a road trip to Custer State Park
To see the animals.
Prairie Dogs
antelope
wild Burros
Deer, young
and older
plus even a young male.
lots of Buffalo
with their young
and they owned the road
we saw wild Turkeys several times but they were hard to shoot. Must have thought we were hunting.
We had to wait on one deer
The road thru this are very winding and have six very narrow tunnels.
Samples of the tunnels. Some trucks and vans had to fold their mirrors in.
The scenery was awesome. Pictures do not do it justice.
These are typical views around each turn. It took us two days to complete it all.
AND, we did find a very good locally owned restaurant. The have excellent BBQed Buffalo Short Ribs and Buffalo Stew.
